Welcome to the Experiential Hakomi Method of Assisted Self Study
What is Hakomi Therapy?
"Clients, in the most important moments of their therapeutic work, discover who they're dreaming themselves to be and the world they've been dreaming they're living in. They are surprised to discover that these dreams can be revised....A person's reality, which in each unconscious moment seems the very ground he's standing on, turns out to be only a platform and not the true good earth."
~Ron Kurtz, Founder,Hakomi Method
Gentle, experiential and compassionate, Hakomi is a mindfulness based method of assisted self discovery and emotional healing. Embracing understanding from the worlds of neuroscience, spirituality and psychology, the Hakomi Method is based on the life long work and insight of Dr. Ron Kurtz (www.hakomi.com) Hakomi isthe expression of the following principles: mindfulness, nonviolence, organicity, unity, body-mind-spirit holism, and loving presence.
The word Hakomi is Hopi in origin and translates to, 'how do I stand in relation to these many realms?' or simply 'Who am I?'
Often referred to as applied Buddhism, Hakomi employs the state of mind known as mindfulness for assisted self-study. This state of mind is used to explore our implicit beliefs, habits and the automatic ways in which we perceive our world. With focus on present moment experience,as a bridge between the unconscious and conscious, we can begin to observe how we have organized our lives around these ways of being, how we relate to 'these many realms'.
You cannot transcend what you do not know.
To go beyond yourself, you must know yourself.
~Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Through Hakomi we come to see how our beliefs create our reality, which in turn creates the automatic behavior that governs our world. Because many of these ways of being are habitual and run mostly outside of consciousness, Hakomi aspires to bring these ideas to light. By using little experiments, done in mindfulness, such beliefs are gently and efficiently brought into consciousness. From there they can be re-evaluated and adjusted, helping to minimize unnecessary suffering. From a standpoint of awareness, lasting change becomes possible.
Loving presence and the healing relationship are central to Hakomi. During a Hakomi session you will be received with sensitivity, empathy and a fine tuned responsiveness. This fosters a deep sense of safety and connection which contributes to the effectiveness of the therapy.A Hakomi practitioner will act as a compassionate assistant, there to nurture and support as you unfold into your own inner wisdom and come to a deeper recognition of yourself. Together we will journey on a pilgrimage toward wholeness.
